Metro Classic kits feature a 9 ply cross laminated 5.4 mm vertical grain shell.
We developed this shell to deliver a versatile, modern sounding drum.
Strong attack, good sustain, and a rich fat tone defines the classic series.
Our unique double cut bearing edge is precission machined towards the inside of the drum shell.
This bearing edge delivers a clear response and a huge tuning range.

Vintage Series:
Some players prefer a slightly warmer drum with more muted tones.
Our Vintage shell is a thin 4.2 mm Swamp Gum / Queensland Maple sandwich.
To add strength at the bearing edges and to provide a rounder tone, we install matching re-rings.
Bearing edges on the vintage kits are also slightly more rounded to allow extra contact between the head and shell.
These light weight shells produce an old school, warm, round and sweet tone.

Prestige Series:
Exclusive to Metro Drum Co., each drum starts out as a solid timber board.
We 'hand cut' this board into 5 consecutive veneers, which are then cold pressed under extreme tension to form the drum shell.
This labour intensive process delivers shells that display all the characteristics and tone of a solid shell.

Solid Series:
Metro stave (block) drums are built using a super strong and reliable fingerjoint method.
32 fingerjointed staves are epoxy glued together and accurately machined to create the shell.
As well as being strong, we have found this creates a more rigid and resonant stave shell than one that is simply butt glued. Tom shells are 3/8", snare drums and bass drums 1/2".
